Jeriko Khùalbûk is a specialized facility in Mizoram that provides treatment and support for women struggling with drug addiction, alcoholism, and substance abuse.
Family counselling is another programme where the parents of the clients are reached out to help them solve their problems. Each parent comes to the centre for family counselling. They are helped to accept their children’s addiction as well as skills to cope up with it. They are also made to understand that addiction or alcoholism is a family disease. Family visits and individual counselling are also given.
We have visited our discharged clients’ residence to rehabilitate them in their Society and also in their family. When the clients are reintegrated into the families they are not just left to themselves but a follow-up programme is given. A team of expert social workers and the peer educators renders continuous home visits to the clients who completed the treatment in the centre. We have given some lessons on behavioural change ideas and attitudes, which would be best suited with the patients. Besides reintegration of patients with their family if any marital problems arise in the Ex-Addicts marital life; we have extended our helping hand to solve it by handling some very careful delicate private matters. In the case of delinquent Patients in whom the Addiction problems relapse again showing some misbehaviour, we have tried to visit their home frequently to stop their Addiction problems and educate them to change their misbehaviour.
Patients in the centre’s were referred to ICTC centre for HIV screening test and if found positive they were referred to ART centre for registration and doing CD4 count. Besides this if the patient needs treatment beyond our services we referred them to other services as per requirement.
Regular medical check-up was conducted at the centre like Blood Pressure, Pulse, Temperature, Weight, Chest, Blood sugar, head to Toe physical examination and Respiration test.
Note: Alcohol and Heroin was common among the patients.
